IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR!!
The children are back in school which means packing lunches, snacks and dinner. When packing snacks for the kids, it is essential to pick snacks that are nutritious and promote good dental health such as yogurt, cheese, fruits, vegetables and nuts. It is important to stay away from chewy sugary snacks that often “appear” to be healthy such as fruit roll ups, peanut butter chocolate “granola” bars and sugary juices. When packing lunches try to include calcium rich foods, proteins and leafy greens. Sometimes it may be difficult to get children to eat healthy foods so try cutting them into fun shapes or putting them into bright colored baggies / containers. Try to avoid empty calorie food such as lollipops, taffy, cakes, cookies, and muffins that provide little nutritional value and promote tooth decay. Sometimes it is not what our children are eating but what they drink during the day. Do not let sugary lemonades, sweet teas and soda sneak up on your family. Besides having a healthy diet it is important to help and encourage your children to brush twice a day and make sure they are including enough water in their diet (try buying cool, fun water bottles so the kids will want to drink water out of them).
WE WISH ALL OF OUR PATIENTS A HEALTHY AND HAPPY SCHOOL YEAR!!
