As Dental Practitioners, we would like to bring awareness to oral cancer as well. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, over 43,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year.
The greatest risk factors are still tobacco use and alcohol consumption with the combined effect increasing your chances by 15X the likelihood of developing oral cancer. More recently, a virus (HPV16) has been identified as ONE of the causative agents in oral cancer.
